Gerindra Deputy: Many Try to Pit Jokowi against Prabowo

1 July 2019 08:39 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party deputy chairman Arief Poyuono thinks that many people are trying to pit Prabowo Subianto and president-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo against each other.

“There are hordes of 'phantoms' that try to destroy Indonesia’s unity following the Constitutional Court (MK) verdict by constantly pitting Prabowo and Jokowi against each other, the same with Megawati and Prabowo, Gerindra and PDIP,” said Arief in a written statement on Sunday, June 30.

According to him, certain groups are afraid of seeing opposition and pro-government political parties uniting in an attempt to improve Indonesia’s governance.

The political parties he refers to are; Gerindra, Indonesian Democratic APrty of Struggle (PDIP), Golkar, and the National Awakening Party (PKB).

“Prabowo and Ibu Megawati has a personal bond with each other and are close friends,” said Arief.

This follows the public outcry pressing for Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno to officially congratulate the 2019 president and vice president-elect Jokowi and Ma’ruf Amin.
